RAILJET - Full range of rail vehicle interior fittings

ROMAY supplied the complete interior cladding system for the Siemens Railjet. The scope included 25 product groups comprising around 350 individual components, all manufactured in-house — from heating ducts to side panels. The project represents one of ROMAY’s most extensive and technically demanding rail interior programmes.

Complete interior cladding system for Siemens Railjet trainsets. The delivery covered 25 product groups and approximately 350 individual components, including side panels, heating ducts, and ceiling elements.

Design & Engineering:
The project required integrating diverse materials — SMC, aluminium, and HPL — to achieve structural strength, fire safety compliance, and aesthetic consistency. ROMAY’s engineering team developed the component designs and material solutions based on Siemens’ platform specifications.

Tooling & Production:
To support the wide range of components, 25 dedicated tools were developed across several technologies. Manufacturing processes included SMC hot pressing and GFUPR hand lay-up (both in-house), as well as sourced aluminium casting and profile extrusion. All visible surfaces, including aluminium parts, were finished on ROMAY’s automated painting lines.

Procurement & Assembly:
The project involved coordinating an extensive supply chain and managing a large number of purchased parts. Component preparation and assembly required precise sequencing and quality control due to the system’s complexity.

Logistics:
Deliveries were coordinated through just-in-time logistics to align with wagon assembly.

Result:
The Railjet programme represents one of ROMAY’s most comprehensive rail interior projects, combining multiple production technologies and materials to achieve a fully integrated, durable, and efficient cladding system.
